Traveling to North Goa for some undeniable relaxation was exactly what I needed. I was on the lookout for perfect places to stay while on vacation, and after much research, I came up with a list of must-visit spots in North Goa. Here’s a peek into the places I stayed and how I selected them.

To get your Goa groove on, scroll down to find my top picks for places to stay.

Best Places to Stay

Luxe Stay

The Hotel

First up, I chose Taj Fort Aguada Resort & Spa. Its prime location and luxurious amenities made it irresistible. Nestled by the beach with stunning views, it was an oasis of comfort and elegance.

Where to eat nearby

My restaurant recommendation near this stay would be the infamous Cohiba, perfect for enjoying vibrant North Goa nightlife and delicious food.

Best for Partying Hard

The Hotel

For a more laid-back vibe, I stayed at The Baga Beach Resort. This spot offered the best of both worlds—beachfront serenity during the day and lively nightlife as the sun set. Its prime location made it easy to enjoy the tranquil beach and then immerse myself in the vibrant local scene, creating a perfect balance for my stay.

Where to eat nearby

I highly recommend De Baga Deck for a delightful culinary experience. Be sure to try the classic fish and chips—it's a must!

Best for Family Fun

The Hotel

Located in the vibrant village of Vagator, Villa Luna by Hirevilla is a stunning 2-bedroom retreat that epitomizes luxury. After a busy day exploring local markets or basking in the Goan sun, I loved retreating to the beautifully designed living room where I played numerousboard games (provided by the respective villa). It opens up to a private pool and landscaped garden, providing the perfect spot to unwind and rejuvenate.

Where to eat nearby

Try the classic Goan Spice. I would highly recommend this restaurant. A must-try dish there is their delicious crispy calamari (squids) and mixed seafood fried rice—it's absolutely delightful!

Best Budget Option

The Hotel

I opted for Casa Vagator, a chic boutique hotel that captured the essence of Goan charm. The proximity to Vagator Beach and its vibrant atmosphere made it a perfect choice.

Where to eat nearby

  • Anand Seafood Bar & Restaurant. Their authentic fish thali is not only super tasty but also easy on the wallet—it's an absolute must-try for a delicious Goan experience.

  • Olive Bar & Kitchen Goa for Mediterranean-inspired dishes with a Goan twist. Under Chef Evan Gwynne's masterful eye, Olive's menu showcases Goa's vibrant local produce and fresh seafood. I tried the Piri Piri Shrimp, which was absolutely chef's kiss. If you have a sweet tooth, you must try the 811 Chocolate Torte—it's divine.

Best Eco-friendly Stay

The Hotel

Lastly, I experienced the rustic beauty of Riva Beach Resort in Mandrem. Its eco-friendly approach and tranquil setting provided the ultimate escape.

Where to eat nearby

To match the chill vibe, I recommend Prana Cafe in Mandrem. They serve the best matcha and avocado toast—a perfect combination for relaxing and enjoying the serene surroundings.

Things to Consider When Choosing North Goa Accommodation

Location

Location is key when choosing accommodation in North Goa. Decide if you prefer a beachfront stay for immediate access to the sea or a more secluded spot inland for peace and quiet. For a serene retreat away from city life, head to Vagator, Anjuna, or Mandrem regions. These areas offer tranquility and a chance to recharge amidst beautiful surroundings.

If you're seeking a livelier atmosphere with bustling nightlife and vibrant activities, Candolim, Baga, and Calangute are ideal. Here, you can enjoy a more ecstatic and lively experience, perfect for those looking to dive into the Goan good life.

Amenities

When considering amenities, it's essential to check for options like pools, spas, and dining facilities that align with your preferences.

Personally, I often opt for Airbnb accommodations that include a kitchen with utensils. This choice not only saves on the cost of dining out but also allows for more flexibility in meal planning and cooking. It's a practical way to maintain a budget while enjoying the comforts of home during travel.

Budget and Accessibility

It's crucial to set a budget range and find accommodations that fall within it. Choosing options like Airbnb with kitchen facilities can help save on dining expenses, making it easier to stick to your travel budget without compromising on comfort. When selecting accommodation, consider its proximity to local attractions and ease of transportation. Opting for centrally located places ensures convenient access to beaches, markets, and cultural sites, allowing you to make the most of your time in Goa without spending too much on travel or wasting time commuting.

Plan to visit during early November or late March to avoid the peak tourist season. On a personal note, I traveled to Goa in late May specifically to avoid the crowds and to experience the first rains of the season. It was truly magical, especially if you’re traveling with someone special.

Best Time to Visit North Goa

Weather

The best time to visit Goa is usually from November to March, offering pleasant and dry weather perfect for exploring beaches and cultural sights. If you're into water sports and beach activities, consider visiting during the summer months when the sea is calmer and more suitable for these adventures.

Goa's summer, from April to early June, provides excellent conditions for activities like snorkeling, jet skiing, and parasailing, ensuring you can make the most of the coastal beauty and thrilling water experiences that the region is famous for.

Festivals

If you enjoy festivities, visit during Christmas and New Year's or during local festivals like Carnival in February. For something truly unique, experiencing the Sao Joao festival in June, also known as the St. John Feast, is perfect. This festival celebrates fertility and the monsoon rains, with locals jumping into wells and streams adorned with flowers. It's a joyful celebration of Goan culture and traditions, coupled with the refreshing onset of the rainy season, making June an ideal time to visit for a different kind of Goa experience.

Avoiding Crowds

Plan to visit during early November or late March to avoid the peak tourist season.

On a personal note, I traveled to Goa in late May specifically to avoid the crowds and to experience the first rains of the season. It was truly magical, especially if you're traveling with someone special.

Avoiding the peak tourist season allowed us to enjoy quieter beaches and a more intimate atmosphere, making every moment together even more memorable against the backdrop of Goa's lush greenery and refreshing showers.
